Brown attended Northwestern University, earning her BA in Political Sciences at the Université Laval in Québec, and holds a masters degree from University of California where she also advanced to Ph.D. Candidacy in Sociology. She speaks fluent French and Italian, and has excellent working knowledge of Levantine Colloquial Arabic, good Spanish and classical Arabic, and a basic knowledge of Hebrew and Japanese.

Brown's background includes international business experience, teaching at the college level, and extensive project management experience. She has been personally responsible for the design and implementation of training programs in areas such as strategic planning, sales, customer service, healthcare, the airline industry, telecommunications and software implementation.
