Productive Strategies Welcomes Mike Hill and Indianapolis

Phil Krone

We’re pleased to introduce the newest member of our consulting team, Mike Hill, who will primarily serve growth-minded companies in the greater Indianapolis area as a senior consultant. Mike also has expertise that our other U.S. clients might find helpful.

A lifelong Indianapolis resident, Mike was for 18 years a senior executive at Meyer Plastics, Inc., leading sales and marketing growth as vice president. Meyer Plastics is an outstanding family-owned, industrial distribution company located in Indianapolis. During his tenure, the company experienced significant growth and added several new distribution locations.

We’re sure you’ll find Mike to be a dynamic individual. A talented sales coach and mentor, he also flies airplanes into the wild blue yonder and dives into the deep blue sea. Sorry, that’s just my over-the-top way of saying he’s an FAA-licensed pilot and a PADI-certified SCUBA diver. And while we’re at it he also climbs mountains (but not in Indiana) and runs marathons (but not in the mountains).

We’re high on Mike  and believe our clients will be too. His professional background ranges from in-the-field selling and coaching to corporate office marketing and strategic planning. Perspective as a middle-market business owner will be invaluable to the owners, CEOs, and presidents we often work with. He’s great hands-on and can also quickly see how it all fits together.

Also important, especially now, is that Mike shares our optimistic attitude toward U.S. business and the staying power of small and middle-market businesses. He knows firsthand, as we do, that such companies produce the bulk of net new jobs each year (70 to 80 percent, in fact). They are the heart of the free enterprise system in America.

And I won’t apologize for going over the top on that one. We’ve been saying it for years as Mike and our clients have been living it.

But that’s not all.  Mike is also a writer and public speaker. He is the author of “Measuring to Manage,” a business book about how to use measurable data to gain maximum employee productivity. He has personally conducted more than 500 employee evaluations.

So, Mike will be able to effectively determine which of our some 25 services, if any, might be right for your specific challenges and opportunities. We specialize in providingbusiness-to-business sales processes; generating leads for a variety of businesses across all industries, including professional services, and creating marketing communications that drive dynamic business development.

A new tool  for Mike will be yet another certification, as an instructor for our popular FOCIS® Sales Training course. FOCIS® has taught the skills and behaviors of the top business-to-business producers to hundreds of business developers at all levels of experience and achievement.

Finally, Mike is a past president of the International Association of Plastic Distributors and holds both bachelor of science and master of business administration degrees from St. Bonaventure University, St. Bonaventure, New York.

So, when you want practical perspective, need specific services, or just looking for upbeat conversation, give Mike a call at (317) 445-7524 or e-mail him at mhill@productivestrategies.com. He not only believes in our proven approach of providing value at every turn. He knows how to deliver it.

Are you selling business to business or business to government or both? There are similarities but also differences that need to be recognized to optimize your results.

Last year after a talk I gave at the Small Business Expo on Business to Business Selling (B2B) , a woman asked for my card because she wanted to meet to tell me about her business and learn more about mine. When we eventually got together she shared that her start-up company’s goal was to console consumers who had suffered the loss of a loved one directly, as she had. But my talk had inspired a new idea: assist funeral homes to improve their services by showing more empathy to their customers who were struggling as she was. I sensed that my talk gave her confidence that, despite the challenges, her business could succeed. What I didn’t realize was that this small assignment for a start-up would eventually have such a big impact on her business as well as an industry.

To date we have covered the Sales, Information, Tactical, and Marketing Plan Levels. Although the fifth level is the last to be discussed, it is often what sets a business in motion when it is founded. Today we will illustrate marketing to support a vision by discussing two very successful businesses.

As a reminder, the Five Levels of Marketing are (1) Sales, (2) Information/Data/Analytics, (3) Tactical or Campaign, (4) Marketing or Program, and (5) Vision/Strategic. We’ve explored each of the first three levels in separate columns in August, September, and October. They are available on our website's Productive Insights collection.
